JAIME BROCKETT

Jaime Brockett (pronounced “Jamie”) is a memorable and uniquely stylish New England folksinger. As the Boston Globe described him, Jaime is a “hard-core, unregenerated folkie.”

His popularity soared, as a recording artist and performer, starting in the 1960s, when his version of Legend of the U.S.S. Titanic became an overnight classic. Despite the song’s length — over three minutes, an extraordinarily long recording for that era — radio stations made time to play it anyway.Into the 21st century, Jaime continues to entertain audiences — many of whom will drive long distances for any Jaime Brockett concert or performance — with his dry wit, clever observations on life, and his consistently rich music.Skilled in many of the musical instruments he collects, Jaime may be best known for his talents with guitar, banjo and dulcimer, but he can eke a sweet sound out of almost any string instrument.

Jaime Brockett may not be a household name, but to those who’ve had the pleasure of hearing his music — live or recorded — Jaime’s an instant legend.

A BRIEF BIO: JAIME BROCKETT

Jaime Brockett grew up in Grafton and Westborough, Massachusetts. In 1969, he achieved almost instant fame with “The Legend of the U.S.S. Titanic.” That popular song is Jamie’s rambling, 13-minute version of a Leadbelly classic, co-written with Chris Smither.Today, Jaime lives in a picturesque corner of New England, collects vintage guitars, and nods at armadillos as he passes them en route his next concert.Jaime has always filled his movie (aka, his life) with adventures, great music, witty dialogue, and clever observations. He sees his life through sunny yellow lenses as he roams from one coffeehouse or club (and grateful audience) to the next.

Jaime is well-respected as a musician since he made his mark on folk music in the late 1960s. His first album, Remember the Wind and the Rain, attracted loyal fans who — more than 30 years later — sometimes drive hundreds of miles for one of Jaime’s performances.

Jaime’s other albums include: Jaime Brockett 2 - 1970 (Capitol Records), North Mountain Velvet - 1977 (Adelphi Records), and Road Dancer - 1996, (Private release).

Jaime’s music has evolved far beyond “The Legend of the U.S.S. Titanic.” In his 21st century performances, Jaime’s original observations are as appreciated as his songs.

Jaime Brockett is a folk music icon, an entertainer on- and offstage, and he’s still legendary for his sizzling, pan-fried steaks.

Albany, NY native Barry Weinstein plays fiddle for Running the River and occasionally sings harmony vocals. He studied music performance at SUNY-Potsdam and SUNY-Albany and began playing bluegrass and country music after attending the Mark O’Connor Fiddle Camp in 1996. Barry has performed in a number of country rock and bluegrass bands in the Capital District at venues such as the Parting Glass, Cafe Lena, and Saratoga First Night, as well as fairs and festivals where his bands opened for national acts as Lonestar and Rascall Flatts. Among his favorite artists are Alison Krauss, Natalie McMaster, Kenny Baker, the Steve Miller Band and Junior Brown. Barry’s instrument of choice is an acoustic Guarnerius copy fiddle, but when the size of the venue calls for it he turns to his L.R. Baggs pickup or Sonic electric violin Backed up by a Peavey Session 400 amp and Bluemax compression/sustain rack mount.

Dennis (Denny) Davis started playing guitar in 1963 and gave his first public performance at a college “hootenanny” in Washington, D.C. in October, 1964. Since that time, Denny has played almost continuously in a variety of musical groups. His musical influences come from many musical genres, including American and Irish folk, pop, bluegrass and blues. Among the performers who have influenced him the most are the Kingston Trio, the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem, the Beatles, the Dillards and Eric Clapton. Denny plays guitar and sings lead and harmony vocals with Running the River, chipping in from time to time on mandolin. Denny lives in Niskayuna, NY.

Running the River bassist, guitarist and vocalist Fred Woodward has performed in a number of groups over the past 30 years. Though he grew up listening to classical and Big Band music, his musical interests expanded to include bluegrass, folk, rock, Irish, blues and latino. His bluegrass and country interests began when he attended an Earl Scruggs show, in addition to attending and eventually performing at local bluegrass festivals. In addition, Fred absorbed music from an old jukebox that had all the old country songs on it. “I used to go to a bar that was on a dirt road about two miles from a paved road” recalls Fred. “I don’t think the records on the jukebox had been changed since the early 50′s. Beers were cheap, the third one was on the house for regulars, and I always fed the jukebox.” Fred’s interests in the blues began with Eric Clapton and found its way back to the roots artists like Willie Dixon, Freddie King, Howlin’ Wolf. Little Walter, Magic Sam and of course Robert Johnson, the legendary “King of the Delta Blues”. All of these influences can be heard in Fred’s orginal songs such as “Hit The Ground Running” and “Down By The Riverside”. In addition to performing, Fred also handles Running the River’s sound system and recording sessions.
